Contract negotiations with Swire Coca Cola continued throughout the entire week of March 23 as the Union and Company negotiating committees continues to work hard to secure a good faith and recommended contract agreement prior to contract expiration on March 31st.
While tentative agreements to improve the contract have been achieved, the tough work began earlier this week as both sides propose and counter propose on the the big three issues - wages, health care and pension.
Local 162 represents over 350 workers at Swire Coca Cola's Wilsonville distribution and sales centers. We represent drivers, warehouse employees, merchandisers, service technicians and cooler movers.
A Union negotiating team caucus will occur during the weekend, and full negotations with both sides are scheduled to resume on Monday, March 30th. While the pandemic ranges on, our members are working hard to keep the grocery stores stocked with bottled water and other Coca Cola beverages. We are proud that these Teamsters are serving an important and critical role during this national emergency. Local 162's negotiating team is working hard to achieve a contract worthy of our members vote to ratify. Bargaining during this pandemic has been done in full compliance with CDC guidelines and orders from the Oregon Governor. We will keep the membership updated on our progress.
Swire recently rolled out a paid time off policy for employees who get the COVID-19 virus, including employees quarantined and affected with child care issues. Our members at Swire can get the details of that policy from your management team. If you have any questons about the policy you can also contact Mike Mayo, Local 162 Business Agent.
