Teamsters Local 162 mourns the loss of Local 162 Benefits Coordinator and Business Agent Gary Miller. Gary Miller was a 34-year Teamster who’s first Teamster job was driving a truck for 7-UP bottling out of Spokane, WA. After relocating to Portland, Gary worked full-time for Schuss Company Wholesale Grocers. After years of being a shop steward, Gary joined the Local 162 Executive Board in 1982 as a Trustee and in 1988 was elected to the position of Benefits Coordinator and later a Business Agent at Local 162. Gary was heavily involved in Teamster volunteer work, having volunteered for the Teamsters Credit Union and Insurance Agency, the Credit Review Committee, the Labor’s Community Service Agency, and the annual Oregon Truck Driving championships. Gary retired in December of 2000 and enjoyed the benefits of his Teamster retirement.
